             HIS FAMILY AND PERSONAL INTERESTS

The young lady in the middle is just as intelligent as is beautiful.  His wife Imelda has a degree in Computer Science, a degree in Telecommunications from the University Libre of Brussels, Belgium and also has a Master Degree in Public Policy from the University of New Mexico.

He lives in East Davis with his wife Imelda who are parents to a 19 year old son Jose-Jr (JJ), a sophomore at the University of Arizona.  

He has three other children from a previous marriage, David, after attending Davis High School went to the University of Michigan and became an electrical engineer,  Sara an Attorney for the California Health Department went to UC Davis and Cristina attended UCLA, a Psychologist, worked for UC Berkeley and is currently in graduate school at Tufs University in Boston.

SPORTS AND HOBBIES

He also likes sports and hobbies.  His favorite, soccer.  He started as a referee for AYSO in Davis, in 1982.  After going through the ranks for many years, he earned a National Referee badge for AYSO (American Youth Soccer Organization) and the FIFA affiliate USSF (United States Soccer Federation).  He has 30 years of service to the organization and all of them with Davis children and young adults. Every saturday you will find him in the soccer field amongst Davis kids and parents. He distinguishes what is fair from foul and while some may not agree, sticks to his decisions. He is well liked for his simple and friendly demeanor.  Soccer is the sport he learned to play since he was 5 years old.

AECALIFORNIA

Jose, Imelda and JJ spend their spare time working to support AECALIFORNIA (Ecuadorian Association of California), a non profit organization  http://www.aecalifornia.org.   It supports financially American Doctors who go on Medical Missions to operate on children with facial deformities for free in Latin America. He is the President and CEO of that organization for the last 4 years.

Jose traveled to south america with Operacion Esperanza a group of Drs. from UC Davis and Oregon State who operated on colombian and ecuadorian children.  He used his language skills to help American Drs. as an interpreter. 

LEARNING LANGUAGES HIS FAVORITE HOBBLY AND CHALLENGE

Jose speaks fluently German, French, Spanish and English.  He learned German during two sabbatical years in Germany and in Switzerland. He learned French at the Ecole Centralle de Lille in France.  He is a native Spanish speaker.  He lerned English at the age of 16 when he came to the United States as a foreign exchange student, lived with an american family and graduated from Midowdale High School in Dayton, Ohio.  This summer began learning Italian.
